Recently, my husband and I attended an outdoor concert for a Beatles band called Abbey Road. I do believe that my husband could win a game show about Beatles trivia – he just loves the Fab Four. Well, as you know for most concerts (and this one was outdoors) arrive early to get some good real estate with your blanket for your friend’s hours before the concert. Needless to say, we had some time to kill before the band started as we had arrived early.
In strolling before the concert, my husband spotted a man with a Virginia Tech hat on. He introduced himself. They chatted for a good while. When he came back to our blanket, he had a huge grin on his face. Other than getting caught up on the latest Hokie chants, what could be so wonderful? Your birthday wish – my hubby responded. It turns out that for my September birthday, other than our traditional celebration of a truly decadent birthday cake or other caloric treat, I wanted to attend a Virginia Tech football game. Well, it can be quite tricky to get football tickets for VT. Their star shines brightly in the ACC and needless to say, in a school who graduates thousands of students each year, there are a few alumni who want to attend. The man that my husband was talking with offered out VT football tickets to the game that I wanted to attend. Collegiate karma? Or chance encounter.
So, as my husband led me to the dance floor that evening I thought about his conversation with the VT gentlemen that had produced my 2011 birthday celebration. “Tomorrow never knows” but “every little thing you do “…means a lot” in the everyday. And then I turned and said to my husband, “I’m happy just to dance with you”.
