I know. We didn’t win a Bowl Game, again. And, too many bad dream re-plays cycling over and over again in my brain. Yes, we wanted to win one for Virginia Tech. Yes, we wanted to win one for the ACC. We wanted to dispute all the pre-game hype about VT, ACC football and the lack of Hokie-hype going on in the media, with a nod to the “other team”.
However, I’m here to tell you folks, it’s not that bad. Really. For the past straight 19 years, Virginia Tech has gone to Bowl games. Nineteen years. That’s a generation of Bowl Games. That’s a generation of Bowl Games with the same head coach.
Talent. The Hokies recruit good talent mostly within the state of Virginia. Virginia Tech is not a top 10 school. We are a top 20 but not a top 10. So we don’t have the “stars” jumping on the Hokie bandwagon with a chance for the alumni to watch a future Heisman talent in his college development. Tech recruits good talent that improve with great coaching developing into outstanding players. It’s Picasso who said: “It’s your work in life that is the ultimate seduction.” Tech’s work ethic has shown that it believes it can achieve a winning season. It has been seduced by the fact that it can continually perform on the big stage as a result of its season. It is still passionate about football, skilled at the game and working toward better results.
In Jim Collins’ book, “Good to Great”, he mentions that being on the flywheel of good to great includes “confronting the brutal facts to see clearly what steps MUST be taken to build momentum.” In this post-season time, I believe that VT will confront the brutal facts to re-approach the 2012-2013 season and compete like the winners that they are.
19 straight bowl games. Good talent. Great results. Way to finish on a Hokie high.
